Not A Mistake

Story Behind The Song

This song was completely mixed professionally in New York before Eddie Kanani got the inspiration to overdub clavinet through a wah-wah pedal, vintage analog synthesizer and drum machine sounds played live over the final mix during the verses of this song. This last minute inspiration takes the song to another level with these added expressive soundscapes. "Not A Mistake" has become one of the favorite songs on Eddie's debut album by both listeners and Eddie himself. "Not A Mistake" has also been featured on the syndicated "Club Virtue" radio show after the show's producer reached out to us. Eddie's greatest desire for this song is to provide hope and encouragement to those who are hurting, depressed, hopeless or facing adversity they need to overcome.

Song Description

People feel discouraged & misunderstood to the point of thinking their life was a mistake (or maybe they've even been told they were a mistake by their parents). This song encourages people that they have unique value & purpose and that they are definitely not a mistake. This short song has an energetic, mid-tempo upbeat feel with a solid hip-hop beat incorporating the unique sound of orchestral Timpani. The keyboard playing and singing add a soulful, funky warmth to the song, appealing to pop, hip-hop and r&b audiences alike. As described in the "story behind the song", this track from Eddie's debut album was completely mixed before Eddie had creative inspiration strike, causing him to play multiple additional parts, including clavinet through a wah-wah pedal, live over the final mix before sending the song back to New York to Sterling Sound for mastering.

Lyrics

NOT A MISTAKE
Words & Music by Eddie Kanani

Chorus:

You feel like you just don't measure up
You say your life is rough and you've had enough
You wanna go away because of all the heartache
I'm here to tell you that you're loved and you're not a mistake

Verse 1:

Heartache sometimes seems so painful
That you don't know what to do
People try to tell you things about you
Without really knowing you

Chorus:

You feel like you just don't measure up
You say your life is rough and you've had enough
You wanna go away because of all the heartache
I'm here to tell you that you're loved and you're not a mistake

Verse 2:

You were born for a purpose
There are things only you can do
Don't you ever be discouraged
And remember His love is there for you

Chorus:

You feel like you just don't measure up
You say your life is rough and you've had enough
You wanna go away because of all the heartache
I'm here to tell you that you're loved and you're not a mistake

You feel like you just don't measure up
You say your life is rough and you've had enough
You wanna go away because of all the heartache
I'm here to tell you that you're loved and you're not a mistake
