Story Behind The Song

This song was inspired by my visit to the ruin's of Hernan Cortez' first house in the Americas, located near the city of Veracruz, Mexico. These fantastic and eerie ruins moved me to ponder the ominous implications of the last moments prior to the inevitable collision of the Old and New Worlds.

Song Description

Approximate Translation Prelude To An Encounter The lady whispers early in the morning: "Don't leave! The earth is going to swallow you, and the Indian's arrow will find you." He answers with laughter and self-assurance: "But it is God himself who send us to find his lands and the gold which is buried there!" The Indian woman breathes quietly in her sleep, as she dreams of the butterflies that she watched yesterday in her corn field. Her man goes to the mountain to seek out prey. Nothing hints at the fact that, soon, This land which he knows so well, will no longer be his. Enchanted mermaid, mermaid of the sea: Why did you guide the ships from the other world to bring them all the way here?

Lyrics

PRELUDIO AL ENCUENTRO
(Author: Karin Stein, 1999)
