Every day I see it on TV
And realize how easily those soldiers could be me
We wear different colors yes its true
But whether land or sea or air we have a job to do
I cant help but watch the evening news
With every casualty I see I hope it isn?t you
And even though I know what?s going on
Doesn?t make it easy, doesn?t change that you?re still gone

And so each night before I go to sleep I say a prayer
For all my sisters and my brothers in harm?s way out there
I thank the Lord that to this point I?ve stayed out of their shoes
And ask Him that He keep them safe from danger

I worry at the same time as I?m glad it isn?t me
The eagle, globe, and anchor that you wear
Makes me proud to know you and reminds me what you bear
Fighting for the freedom of the ones
Who spit at us and curse at us as thanks for what we?ve done
But this is the life you chose to lead
I will be your strong back and support your every need
