Treasures On The Road

Song Description

The idea for this song came from a friend of mine who thought about becoming a missionary and one of her first missions was to dress and live like the homeless people to see what that type of life was like. One day she came across a cardboard box filled with newspapers underneath a bridge and a homeless man yelled at her because he thought that she was going to take his box which he slept in at night. This story stuck with me and I had to turn it into a song because it saddened my heart to know that people actually sleep in cardboard boxes and use newspapers to keep them warm at night.

TREASURES ON THE ROAD
Words and music written by Steven Oudean 2002

INTRO

VERSE 1
There?s an old man and woman and a street corner bum
And a drunk beggin? change for more whiskey and rum
And the cold winds are a blowin? but they got nowhere to go
?cept their cardboard and newspaper homes?

CHORUS
Cardboard and newspaper homes?
And everyone of ?em the good lord knows
Cardboard and newspaper homes?
But one day they?ll trade them for a mansion of gold
And one day they won?t need their treasures on the road

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK: SAME AS INTRO

VERSE 2
Man looks on the outside but God looks on the heart
And he knows what you?re feelin?, and his love he imparts
From the orphan and widow to the wealthy C.E.O.
Well, he loves us all the same and he wants us all to know?

CHORUS
Cardboard and newspaper homes?
And everyone of ?em, the good lord knows
Cardboard and newspaper homes?
But one day they?ll trade them for a mansion of gold
And one day they won?t need their treasures on the road

Yes, one day they?ll trade them for a mansion of gold
And one day they won?t need their treasures on the road

ENDING: SAME AS INTRO
