Story Behind The Song
Froberger was a court composer of Emperor Ferdinand III in Vienna. The Emperor, who loved music, was not only the employer but also a friend of Froberger. After Feridnand's death in 1657, Froberger wrote this tombeaux in a form of a lament but with a very optimistic ending. This highly rhetorical piece finishes with th F major chord rising through more than two octaves and this symbolises the Emperor's sould going straight to heaven.
