Story Behind The Song
I wrote it because of a photograph of a girl sitting with a flower in her hand on a perfectly manicured lawn surrounded by ivy covered buildings. Behind her there was a couple embracing and staring into each others eyes - made her seem even more alone.

Lyrics
(chorus) He loves me, he loves me not, one by one they fall, Not that many petals left, but still too soon to call, Sydney didn't need the flower, she already knew, He wasn't going to call again and there was nothing she could do, While couples strolled hand in hand Sydney sat alone, Wishing she could just go home
(v 1) Sydney would have gone to state college along with all her friends, Vassar was her Mom's idea, she liked to play pretend, Mom gave her that name, Sydney, 'cause it sounded upper-class, Mom spent a fortune on clothes so she could pass
(v 2) Susan was her room-mate, kind of a gadabout, She introduced her to her brother John, suggested they go out, A couple dances, a few dates, before she slept with John, But he told her he loved her, and now he's gone
(v 3) Most of these kids were OK but Susan was a snot, Freshman didn't have a choice, they just drew names by lot, Sydney didn't care who knew she had a scholarship, But Susan cared, and someone let it slip
(repeat chorus)
