Story Behind The Song
This song was written in a morning. Landscape and time are things I very much like writing about. I had the idea to write a number of songs about two lovers whose relationship gradually matures, and use their relationship to the landscape as one of the relationship's barometers. "Mary" is the first song. It has the lyric "it doesn't matter about the weather cos I love the rain". They are not terribly bothered about the landscape yet, it only has a passing influence, and a benign one. In later songs, it very much reflects how they are feeling about one another, and influences the mood.

Lyrics
Let's get in my car and drive away
Let's go and find somewhere nice to stay
We'll go fast and far
I'll hardly touch the brakes
It doesn't matter about the weather
Cos I love the rain
And I love you Mary
I'll play my guitar just for you
I'll play you country
I'll play you the blues
We can dance all night
Right on through to the day
And I'll hold you close and tight
So I can say
I love you Mary
