Song Description
The verse lyrics of this song come from the Konkani culture of the west coast of India, a very proud culture with a tumultuous history but a language rich and diverse in its influences. Primarily based on Sanskrit, it is a language that has just recently begun to be accepted and receive recognition. This song also employs African praise chants
and makes use of the liturgical mystic expression ?Alleluia? as do some of the other songs on the record. The word ?Alleluia?, an expression first appearing in Hebrew liturgy, is believed to be an ecstatic, joyful, expression of acclamation or ovation possibly translated as ?All Hail to Him? or ?Glory to the Highest? ? obviously only used by monotheistic
religions. Trying to portray positivity, peace, and happiness has been one of my goals with this music, and I think Zobonga has all of these qualities. Interestingly, the word ?Zobonga? is just a word that I made up one day out of the blue, but I was later quite astonished to find out that is actually a Zulu word meaning ?We will praise thee? or
simply to praise, thank, or extol ? just what the song is about.
