Roll Over Pretty Baby

Song Description

"Roll Over Pretty Baby" is a sweet lullabye or a romantic love song, or perhaps a bit of both. My friend, Jack Kennedy heard me perform this song live in Portland and asked if he could help me record it. I don't think Jack knew what he was in for since he heard me sing and play it with just an acoustic guitar. After tracking guitar and main vocal at Jack's "studio", First Door On The Left, I played a little percussion with shaker and djembe, banjo played softly in the background, mandola for the big chord sweeps, some harmonies... some more harmonies. I think the recording session wore Jack out, but he was a good sport. Six months later, Nu Screen Themes heard the song and asked to do a remix, add strings & solo cello in the bridge and assorted other flavorings. This is the version now available.

Lyrics

CHORUS
Roll over pretty baby, pull those covers up tight.
I hope you dream of me as you sleep tonight.
Roll over pretty baby, everything's gonna be alright
When you wake up in the morning sunlight.

Can't you see the warmth of a summer rain?
Eyes that light up
Eyes look through you,
Eyes so bright, they see right through
There was a time before we were born, dreaming of wings in flight
Ah, one soft kiss, and say goodnight,
ah and say goodnight.

CHORUS

It's like a sculptor with his stone, a poet with his pen
They look inside, expose what's within.
I hear a whistle in the dark, an echo in the rain
Ah, don't wake up; it's just the rhythm of a passing train.

BRIDGE
Straw hats and bicycles, simpler times gone by
Unswept rooms of modern life
It's only half a lie; I don't have any alibis... for you.

CHORUS

Roll over pretty baby
Roll over sweet baby
Roll over little baby
