Story Behind The Song
Started with an old guitar riff I had from years back, and the lyrics just sort of flowed into it. It was meant as a "starting point" song for the cd ("The Weird, The War, and The Blues"), as the songs more or less flow through the protagonist's life. Where better to start than Adam & Eve. I hope all this says enough about the song!
Song Description
A story/observation of people's ongoing struggle to maintain their mental balance in the middle of overwhelming love/desire. I worked an Adam & Eve theme into the words, to show how far back the fight started between people's heads and hearts. It's got almost an instrumental feel to it, especially with the rather stretched out ending. The "cold" on the "desire" was meant to impart the cold-bloodedness of desire impulses overriding better sense, especially when people have been through it time after time.

Lyrics
Cold Desire
One last time
can I hear it again?
the pretty story
with the bitter end
It started in a garden
with a pair of fools
who met the wrong snake
now he rules
But they never had a chance
with their hearts on fire
no one stands
against cold desire
Now it?s our turn
to take the vow
through stony ground
we?ll pull the plow
and follow the fools
with their hearts on fire
who didn?t stand a chance
against cold desire
cold desire
cold desire
