Fourth of July

Story Behind The Song

This song was recorded one evening in the year 1996, on a Tascam reel to reel eight track. When the sun started coming up, I opened the window to the room. The birds where loud as could be that morning. I had one track left so I stuck the mic out the window and hit record. I got lucky 'cause a morning dove hooted right before the first verse. It's destinctive call was absolutely perfect. It's my favorite part in the song. Live, this song has mutated over the years, but it is still a staple in our set. -Waynerd

Lyrics

Basil, basil
Pop goes the weasle
Got a million stories
But only one glory
Too far to reach it
But I keep on reaching
One day I had it
But it left for a reason

Running through a field on the fourth of July

Look across the street
Staring at the sea
Notice all the eyes
That be looking at me
Climbing like a lumberjack
Should of known she'd be back
Soon there'll be a time
To lift away my spirt
So far away I can't even hear it

Running through a field on the fourth of July
(so far away)

Check it, elect it, then you must accept it
Find it, bind it, then you must remind it
Steel it, feel it, then you must reveal it

Running though a field on the fourth of July
Got the crazy lights in the sky
That's 'cause your running through a field on the Forth of July.
