Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song during the weeks following the hurricane that ravaged New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Every day I read the news about what was happening there and was blown away by what I was seeing/reading. Most of the lyrics came from the headlines that I was reading, but a lot of it was inspired from the images that were being shown on the internet and television.

Lyrics
We're swimming in a sea of misery
restless faces drowning in fate
everything's gone, there's nothin left to see
help is on the way, but it's too late
survival
means fightin for your life
death and destruction cuts like a knife
wake up to find nothin has changed
stayin afloat among the madness is deranged
We're swimming in a sea of misery
hopeless people strugglin to rise
climb aboard the miles of debris
Can you hear them callin, all I hear is the cries
Can this be real
I'm livin in a nightmare
watchin my brothers steal
does anybody really care
can this be real
feels like I'm waiting to die
does anybody know how I feel
Doesn't anybody wonder why
We're swimming in a sea of misery
too many people with nowhere to go
tension's high, I'm livin like a refugee
temperatures risin, its startin to blow
searchin for so many are lost
see the big easy gettin shattered and tossed
toll keeps risin never be the same
wonderin if there's gonna be someone to blame
We're swimming in a sea of misery
too many people with nowhere to go
tension's high, I'm livin like a refugee
temperatures risin, its startin to blow
We're living with the dead in misery
fighting to survive is the only way
searchin for my soul, I'm makin history
I wanna live for tomorrow, but all I got is today
I wanna live for tomorrow, but all I got is today
