Losing The Now

Story Behind The Song

This song just about wrote itself, and I know way too many people (like myself) that can relate to its theme at heart. How did we become so busy as a society that fun and leisure became a liability? (Or maybe I just need a vacation, lol.)

Song Description

This song exemplifies the frustrations of the obstacle-ridden journeys we all take to get what we want out of life. It starts out in a muted, claustrophobic soundscape that suggests the loneliness in everybody's struggle towards happiness. When it opens up full-throttle halfway into verse 1, this electro-rock power march has a driving groove, soaring vocals, choir-like synth, and emotional performance. A high-energy song that gains even more power at its end, this song can lend a feeling of tension, hope, and freedom to almost any filmed scene.

Lyrics

LOSING THE NOW

The willow tree leans into water
Its calm reflection off the shore
It reaches out, beset by gravity
But is it also trying to get a little taste of something more?

You've got me sitting on the corner
You've got me waiting at the door
My expectations have been brutalized (I'm not so wise)
I've got to come to terms that I might never know that something more

Chorus:
Though some bright lights shine up ahead
And there's joy in the words you've said
I'm not sure just how, but I'm losing the now
To allow for what might be
So the future cannot be foreseen
But the signs all around me have got to mean
It's my turn

It's tough to balance self-perception
Too strong or weak will bar your way
From understanding anybody else (a soul to tell)
And in that empathy we'd simplify the bonds we complicate

Chorus
Do I discount the things I've been through
Since most everyone's been through them too?
