Lyrics

Well the church needs a preacher, Preacher needs a wife
Can she play piano? Not on your life!
They're only calling him, but they're really getting two
That's why I'm singing the preacher's wife blues

Life in the fishbowl, that's the one for me
The windows of the parsonage are dirty as can be
I'll get around to cleanin' when I'm finished dustin' pews
That's why I'm singing the preacher's wife blues CHORUS

Chorus: Well you tell me "Get a life". Hey, I got one, sugar plum
Life is kinda cool in our aquarium!

Well, preacher's wife advantages are piled in a heap
I really like my hand-me-downs; I know they weren't cheap
In fact, I've got a dress that looks marvelous on you
That's why I'm singin' the preacher's wife blues. CHORUS

Now I really dig the vittles parishoners donate
I stewed the frozen bunny, and the collard greens, we ate
But when they brought the okra, mmmmmmm, my husband, he refused!
That's why I'm singin' the preacher's wife blues. CHORUS

Well, my kids are nearly perfect; They never do a sin!
that's why we're the model of family discipline.
Do you wanna know a secret? We lose it just like you.
That's why I'm singin' the preacher's wife blues. CHORUS

Well I get up in the mornin'; I'm prayin' for the flock
You say you got a problem? I'll listen to you talk.
I may not know psychology, but, honey, I know you!
That's why I'm singin' the preacher's wife blues.

Bridge Chorus: When the Lord called him, I know he called me, too
I'll iron all his shirts 'cause that's what I wanna do
And I'll listen to his sermons, pat him on the back
and when we both get tired, well I guess we'll hit the sack

You know I ain't complainin' when we're moved by Providence
I'm really good at packing with all my experience
I can find a hundred boxes, but I can't bear leaving you...
That's why I'm singin' the preachers wife blues.

I'm in love with my preacher! I'll stick to him like glue
even when I'm singin' the preacher's wife blues.
Life in the fishbowl....

Clever song! Sounds like it would work great in a musical. Choral part in the refrain is very fun.

Net take on a gospel song. Really brings through the angst of the preachers wife.

Great perspective and originality of lyrics. I liked the female backing vocals. Nice "clean" acoustic guitar accompaniment. The rhythmic pacing and breaks added to the interest of the song.

Did you like specific instrumental parts--You had me from the first note.
Lyrics--I loved this. Well done

The First line and first note were fire. And the Back story was easy to follow.

interesting song, A bit bluesy but really more of a folk song from my opinion, . Its strength I think comes from the story told. feels authentic. Its performed well and the recording is pretty good.

Cute and unique. Good for a chuckle!

Very entertaining. Orginality gets an "A".

Nice lyrics, very true words.

Vocals are commercially clear

I appreciate the humor in the song - looking at the woman's point of view is a nice approach. It seems like it would go over well at church social events. The vocal support the humor.

The song has a Show Tune feel to me, less Gospel or Blues. The vocalist has a pleasant voice and you can understand every lyric...that's cool!! I see this composition in a Musical Comedy. The song has good structure and resolves musically and the story is quite Cute!! Not quite my Genre, but I'm not even sure what my genre is??? So, just keep writing what you enjoy!!

sounds like some of the music of Johnny Cash. lyrics were very entertaining.

Interesting song. Somewhat unusual or perhaps a better phrase would be original. Catchy and memorable, I could see this song easily fitting into musical theatre, in fact I think it would be prefect for that scene.

Of course this is a wonderful song . Straight to the point of this specific niche.
I'm sure many preachers wives have appreciate you writing this, since this is usually par for the course. Thanks for your humerus slant on the subject matter. You were such a gifted writer.

HaHa!! Great song! Got a big smile on my face! I love the vocalist, great voice! And very natural performance. Background vocals are cool. Perhaps the choir was hired to perform on this track. Lyrics are awesome. If you were going for ironic-comedy, I think you nailed it! What a talent to write such a story in such an entertaining light. I could listen to this all night.

interesting song. nice writing. good singing both single and all. good work.

A fun song to listen to..Smile!!

ITS A REAL FRESH AND NICE FEMALE VOICE, VERY ALERT SONG, VERY ORIGINAL WAY TO PERFORMINGS AND EXPRESSS THE SONG, I REAL PRECIATE TO HAVE CERTAIN MUSICIANS AND COMPOSERS AS SUCH IN THE GROUP, THE LYRICS, GUITAR STRUMMINGS, AND CHORUS AS SUCH. KEEP IT UP AS BEST SUCCESS. YOUR ORIGINALITY PASSES MANY STANDARDS JUST AS PASSAWAY. THANX

Guitar was good - then then harmonies kicking in were excellent. The female vocals going up then the bass singer or really baritone kicking in were really good. In terms of artists I can not think of anyone as this is really unique. It has messages on a few levels like then we will hit the sack which could be taken a few different ways but still positive and good.

I really liked this song.

well done great song good mix keep up the good work

Interesting song - I do think it is a funny song and I like the vocals .

I get a wonderful picture of a stage presentation. This seems like a show stopper.

I Like the Lyrics.

OMG! Funniest song I ever heard on broadjam! Really great lyrics. Low-fi recording / and arrangement works...great song.

This song is creative and had me tapping my foot at times. Now I feel a little sorry for women who are Preacher's Wives...lol.."Life in a fish bowl"..cheers

A very entertaining song-I've known husband/wife minister teams and you nailed the unique life they live! The changing tempos combined with the note bending was very clever. Also liked the backing vocals-were they your husband, the minister?

what a cute song - very upbeat and happy - & definitely make you smile

reminded me of a polka, wanted to snap my fingers and dance with my kids. A fun kids television song.

Really cool song! WE should have a preachers wife convention and play this song!

VOICE ON KEY,BACK UP GOOD.
