Uncle Sal (The Old Guy in the Club)

Story Behind The Song

My sister, who is a beautful blonde co-ed at the University of Miami, and I went on vacation to Puerto Rico and I wrote the song after witnessing the attempts of 40-something men to flirt and dance with my 20-something sister and other college aged girls in our entourage.

Song Description

"Uncle Sal (The Old Guy in the Club)" tells the story of a Public Transportation worker who has a midlife crisis and leaves his family and job to move to a bachelor pad by the beach. The song describes in great detail the efforts he makes to try to pick up college aged girls, such as renting a Red Convertible and thoroughly studying the Kama Sutra. His lousy pickup lines never work and in the end, "the ladies never show him love." With a snappy melody, storytelling lyrics and an uptempo beat, Uncle Sal (The Old Guy in the Club) works well as a pop song, a straight ahead rock song, and can be played in the style of ska or punk. It has lyrics that high school and college kids alike can relate to and also features an infectious melody.

Lyrics

Uncle Sal (the Old Guy in the Club)
Lyrics and Music by James Rustad, Copyright 2005

Talkin' bout my Uncle Sal he's my pal works for public transportation
Spends his day earning pay for the wife and the kids down at the station
Engine Engine Number Nine
On the Jersey transit line

In the valley of Hoboken family is broken Sal doesn't miss a beat
Pawned away his wedding ring for some bling and then he hits the street
Got a room down by the beach
All the finest Senoritas are in reach

Chorus:
Uncle Sal you know he is my pal
But the ladies never show him love
Checking out the young girls
He's the Old Guy in the Club

Reads the Kama Sutra so he can pick up tricks
Rents a red convertible so he can pick up chicks
Tries to get girls in the mood
He's a primitive masculine dude

He'd like to meet a girl like on his Farrah Fawcett poster
He'd like to get her number on his margarita coaster
Chasing young girls ain't no crime
With his lousy pickup lines

Chorus:
Uncle Sal you know he is my pal
But the ladies never show him love
Checking out the young girls
He's the Old Guy in the Club
