Story Behind The Song
After a year and a half in New York, Amy's good friend and x boyfriend suddenly died of a heroin overdose at age 27. Amy and Aaron were the same age, both scorpios, both musicians struggeling to make it in the city. Aaron's death shocked the community. He had been the lead guitar player for The Moldy Peches and friends with so many people. The most recent Strokes Album is dedicated to Aaron Robert Wilkinson (1976-2003), and so is this song.

Lyrics
“Hey Cowboy”, she shouted from halfway down the block on Houston.
“The F train should be running but it’s not. Walk with me. I’ll hold you
tight enough to keep you from the cold of November when we were both born.”
What happens to babies that are born in November?
It gets cold before it gets warm and that’s what we remember,
And that’s why we need to be held,
Cold blooded Scorpio’s, with poison on the inside, we’ve got poison on the inside.
And I try to keep it all together,
And I cry because it helps the pain,
You are gone. You left my world forever,
Why do I have to stay? Why do I have to stay here?
“Sweet Angel”, she whispered to your side of the bed.
“This world it just broke you, it got inside your head.
And I know that you are safe now and we will meet again,
I just wish I could have loved you more and been a better friend.”
And I try to keep it all together,
And I cry because it helps the pain,
You are gone. You left my world forever,
Why couldn’t you just stay? Why couldn’t you just stay here?
And I try,
I will try.
But you are gone. You left this world forever,
And I wish that you had stayed, I wish that you had stayed here.
