Song Description

Singer tells about his return home after following the rodeo circuit. Relates through banal experiences how lonely it is being away from all he loves. Finally arrives home and holds his loved one, wondering why he ever left.

Story Behind the Song

We all have things that we love. Sometimes we are drawn away from them by responsibility, duty or chasing a dream.

Broadjam Member Reviews

The song has a good feel too it. The vocals were well for this type of song, as it has an "Old Style" Country feel too it, which was refreshing to listen to. The overall production and instrumentation also worked well for this song. I enjoyed listening.

I always did like a good ole heartfelt song about HOME! Wondering why did you leave? ha ha Like the interesting sound of the drums.

Lyrics

Life is like a whirlwind riding the rodeo
Its taken me some places where I never thought I'd go
But when the show is over and the lights all fade to black
I'll be heading down to Austin town-can't wait till I get back

'Cause my heart belongs to Texas
Nowhere else compares
Nineteen acres and a brown-eyed girl
Are waiting for me there
My heart belongs to Texas
No matter where I roam
I'm heading back to Texas
That's where I call home

Packed up my truck at five a. m. had a hot, black cup of Joe
Riding hard out of Calgary about two days to go
And maybe it's the highway sound or Garth on the radio
That reminds me all I care about is waiting back at home

'Cause my heart belongs to Texas
Nowhere else compares
Nineteen acres and a brown-eyed girl
Are waiting for me there
My heart belongs to Texas
No matter where I roam
I'm heading back to Texas now
That's where I call home

As the sun paints the horizon I break the road's last rise
There in a yellow cotton dress is that girl with the big brown eyes
As I hold her in my arms again well I can hardly breathe
I can't remember now for the life of me why I'd ever leave

'Cause my heart belongs to Texas
Nowhere else compares
Nineteen acres and a brown-eyed girl
Are waiting for me there
My heart belongs to Texas
No matter where I roam
I'm heading back to Texas now
That's where I call home
