Story Behind the Song

In this song, a drag queen reflects on a continued struggle for gay rights. She reflects that politicians only pay lip service, and other members of the LGBT community won't associate themselves with those who dress up as women. In fact, very few will march beside someone, in these heels.

This is the Best Song I have hear on Broad Jam this year!!! I mean it, I brought my wife Margie in to hear your composition and we both wept, this song is so incredibly Beautiful and your Voice is Angelic Oh..........and the arrangement is beyond words! You should be so very proud of this tune.......again, GREAT JOB!!! I hope someday we can write a song this powerful!!
There is a New TV series out about Transvestites on HBO, I believe that's the channel. YOU NEED TO SUBMIT THIS TUNE TO THAT SHOW!!! Everyone needs to hear this tune!!!!!!!!!

    - Margie & Art Corey

It was hauntingly beuatiful. The lyrics were very heartfelt.Your voice is soft and emotional in the song. I loved the simplicity of the melody in the begining, then it picked up at the end. The production was very good. Nice job.

Lyrics

IN THESE HEELS
(Simon Finn)

Some are survivors, some are victims
Some are daughters, some are sons
Never brothers, never sisters
Some are battles not yet won

There's solidarity in sorrow
Paying penance with the pain
Light your candle for a new tomorrow and pray
There won't be any rain

I can't hope any higher
I can't dream any deeper
And only my mascara's gonna run
I can't love any louder
I can't live any prouder
But I'm walking in your shadow
And you're blinded by the sun
You won't know how it feels
Until you march beside me
In these heels

You try denying our existence
The love that only takes the blame
Count yourself among the victims
Cast in shadows by your shame

Maybe paradise is somewhere
Over the rainbow, through the clouds
Click your heels three times and dream you're there and proud
Or you could join me now

I can't hope any higher
I can't dream any deeper
And only my mascara's gonna run
I can't love any louder
I can't live any prouder
But you're following in darkness
Like the one who fired the gun
When you could be living free
But you won't march beside me
In these heels

I can't hope any higher
I can't dream any deeper
And only my mascara's gong to run
I can't love any louder
I can't live any prouder
Yeah sometimes life's a drag
But my work here isn't done
It ain't easy being me
But the view up here's amazing
In these heels

Yes the view up here's amazing
In these heels
