Story Behind The Song
A few years ago I was on tour in the UK. For some reason towards the end of the tour, I decided to drop off the rental car and travel by trains. This was not a great idea. Towards the end I was scheduled to play in a small town in West Sussex called Amberley. I took the train to the Amberley train station but when I got off the train I saw no town- just English countryside. The conductor informed me that the actual town was 2 miles away. So I walked across a muddy pasture with my suitcase in guitar, in the rain, to the gig. Which I was 6 hours early for.
Song Description
Musicians have been writing about life on the road for centuries. Like many of the songs on my latest album "Holding On", this song was written about a particular experience on tour. I was far from home, tired, wet and not sure if I was doing the right thing, as far as my career went. Sometimes you just want to go home.

Lyrics
Over coffee on a Sunday morning
bought a ticket on an outbound train
to somewhere out West in Idaho
or walking in the English rain
It never would have occurred to me
or maybe I just didn't think
Just another avenue I turned on to
what will be will be
chorus:
Sometimes I just wanna go back home
but it's the life
that I know
and if I had time
I'd only stay a while
but I don't like what I might find
Mirrors on the back roads
I never try to look in to
they only hold a broken picture of
a life that I once knew
All the midnights and the melodies
like a train whistle loud and clear
Like a circus train running wild and free
echoes cold through the air
chorus
The circle grows and nobody knows
where the end is gonna be
