The Rubicon

Story Behind The Song

From Wikipedia: "Crossing the Rubicon" is a metaphor for deliberately proceeding past a point of no return. The phrase originates with Julius Caesar's seizure of power in the Roman Republic in 49 BC. Roman generals were strictly forbidden from bringing their troops into the home territory of the Republic in Italy. On 10 January, Caesar led his army across the Rubicon River, crossing from the province of Cisalpine Gaul into Italy. After this, if he did not triumph, he would be executed. Therefore, the term "the Rubicon" is used as a synonym to the "point of no return".

Lyrics

Here we are with our dreams
And clearly waiting for the dawn,
The sun
Calling in light
And the sea beneath the sun.

Memory,
Would lead the way
From this night,
You say there won't be tomorrow
Let tomorrow never come.

We cross the Rubicon,
We cross the Rubicon,
The Rubicon.

This place goes on forever,
If only for this night,
You know as well as I,
We must all be on our way,
Tomorrow.
You say there won't be tomorrow
Let tomorrow never come.

We cross the Rubicon,
We cross the Rubicon,
The Rubicon.

One day will pass into the next,
All of the faithful
And some who try,
One by one are left behind,
To only say goodbye.

The sun
Calling in light
And the sea beneath the sun,
And the reasons why
Tomorrow would come.

We cross the Rubicon,
We cross the Rubicon,
Tomorrow.
