Off in the distance and thru the mist
The towers beam the messages no one can resist
And along the lazy river where we used to play
Sits a gambling boat
They?ve built more storage lockers and more motels
?Cause no one is at home any more to ring the dinner bell
And the topsoil of dreams is being carried away
Flowing downstream
CHORUS
Ooo, that?s modern progress
But, down below the haze
The population?s in a daze
Ooo,,Ooo, that?s modern progress
Oh, but, Lord, when will we ever learn
VERSE 2.
Out on the hills the rigs nod up and down
To squeeze the oil that?s buried below the Texas towns
They fuel the mini power plants that drive us to the grave
Thru the smoky air
And the semis on the interstate slide in and out of lanes
Moving dreams to marketplace lit up like circus trains
Because someone?s found a way to stuff 10 pounds of scrap
Into a two pound bag

Repeat CHORUS
BRIDGE
Out on the desert red lights climb the grade
They?re all fighting for the parking spot that has a little shade
Everyone?s in a hurry to be leading the parade
To the shopping malls, to get the latest upgrade

Repeat CHORUS
To take it slow, give a little slack
Give one another what we want given back
When will we ever learn
When will we ever
Oh, will we ever learn

Easy listening on the ears. I like the picture the lyrics paint. Nice guitar work, the slide guitar sound. The fiddle/violin sound also helps the song out tremendously. Unique lyrics. Vocals fit mood of the song.

nice, easy start to this song. clear, strong voice is right on the money. informational as well. interesting song for sure.

liked the ending as well..

Nice relaxing tune with a message. Good production and vocal.

The song starts very well and offers the listener a good opportunity to think about the subject matter in the lyric. Maybe the song needs a strong bridge to give the arrangement more variety and maintain the opening level of interest for the close out of the song. The writer develops the storyline well and delivers the vocal at a consistent level. I listened twice.

The story of our modern life...You gave a real feel for how we live and I am not sure it is a good idea....Lord when will we ever learn???? that is the question....Nice voice ..nice tone

One fine piece of work. This song has it all: catchy hooks, top-notch instrumentation and guitar work, and a really great vocal to bring it all together. I'm still humming this tune and will be for a while... and I'm looking forward to that! Good stuff. Really good stuff. The best to you and all of your successes. Take good care.

Sold production with a powerful message. Nice playing and singing , well done.

nice track. liked the guitar rhythm and lyrically theme.
has a laid back country folk feel to it.

wow... strong...

Nicely said, cautionary tale. Well sung, played and recorded...as an old folkie I appreciate the points made.

Nice analogies in the lyrics. The groove has a good flow

When will we ever learn indeed... What a great song. Great instrumentation and vocal. Nice imagery and good hook. Love the lines "They're fighting for the parking spot that has a little shade... In a hurry to be leading the parade, to the shopping malls to get the latest upgrade". Very clever.
