Lumbering Mountain (Folk-Psychedelic)

Story Behind The Song

Top Ten - Folk

Song Description

I lived on a prominent hillside on an ice-age river bed in Kansas. It was a broad and sweeping landmass that snaked thru eastern Kansas. I used to climb the hill on a regular basis to enjoy the dramatic view and play my guitar. Needless to say, that place inspired a lot of songs.

If I gave you love
Would you give it back?
Not in the condition you received it in
But in what you have and lack
A love expands a season
If it makes you lose your bearings
Take these seeds
To cure the weeds
That are growing
Take these stones
They will endure
The weathering
Freedom is a word
We seem to feel it
Love is a word
We seem to use
We go through the motions
And we don?t understand the words
We go through the motions
And we don?t understand their words
Carved my name on old, old tree
Along with a hundred others
Sat this woman on my knee
And she used me for her covers
Carved my name on old, old tree
Up on lumbering mountain
I can see
I can wish where I can be
Up on lumbering mountain
Up on lumbering mountain

This is an extremely cool and original song by an artist with a unique and fresh sound and a killer guitar style that I really dig! The song transports me to a mountain, to a garden, to an old oak tree with initials carved...there are some pretty vivid word pictures here. (seeds cure the weeds - great lyric) Enduring stones: reminds me of some of the hikes I've taken in the Smokies. The voice is both haunting and pleasing, inviting the listener into his world. There are some artists that are great to listen to, even if you don't totally understand what they are singing about the first time. This is one of them. I would definitely like to hear more.

Great guitar parts, vibrant and intense vocals, intense all acoustic song. I hear interesting chords.

Lovely guitar work. Great chord progression, irregular tuning? Very strong vocal..the song was sold with real conviction. Very well recorded. All the levels are just right. I could imagine Joni Mitchell singing this song on 'Ladies of the Canyon.'

Has a cool ethereal feel to this one, a slight David Crosby lilt to it. Nice playing effect in the ending solo, the guitar takes on a feel of multiple guitars..nicely done.

great clean guitar playing. nice male vocal--you can sing!
like the chord progression/melody mostly in the "minor" to my ear-- lends interest! nice work!

Really liked your over all sound......You continued to increase your volume through the song which gave the song more power....but I like the sound of your voice

I love the risks you take melodically to go to original places. Beautiful voice! The guitar playing is wonderful too. Great message to this song. Go through the motions but we don't understand the words. Great build to "up on memory mountain".

Really liked this, loved the way it moved from riff to riff with interesting chord changes and mood swings. Great vocal and open tuning drone complimenting each other. Nicely done, thanks!

Nice guitar work on this, using different techniques to push the melody into something definable and entertaining. Lyrics are very well written. Vocalist's tone is soothing and easy to listen to.
