Story Behind the Song

Had something like this happen to a friend years ago, seemed like it made for a good song and I have revised the lyrics a number of times. The departed one didn't have time to send a letter and sent a postcard as he traveled aimlessly around the country. Worse yet, the postcard did not even come to the one who loved him the most!

THE POSTCARD
lyrics and music by Peter Schwepker
Copyright 2017

(VERSE ONE)

A postcard started floatin round among my friends
It said "life is good and I am doing fine"
"I'm making new acquaintances around each bend
And if I'm coming back, I'll drop a line"

(VERSE TWO)

The postmark read November, San Antonio
It seems much longer since he was around
The time was then I loved him and could not let go
But he was packed and headed no-where bound

(CHORUS)

Sometimes I think that he is like that postcard
He will show you sunny days and clear blue sky
But let me tell you that you'll find it's raining real hard
In stormy places where he's said good-bye

MUSIC BRIDGE

(VERSE THREE)

The cold November wind seems to be beck-o-ning
There's not much left to keep me in this place
A postcard and a broken heart for reckoning
The dreams that haunt me with his wondrous face

(CHORUS AND END)

Sometimes I think that he is like that postcard
He will show you sunny days and clear blue sky
But let me tell you that you'll find it's raining real hard
In stormy places where he's said goodbye
