heart shaped glass

Story Behind The Song

Lies from a heart shaped glass is a metaphor how we sometimes ignore red flags in relationships when we are in love. We accept lies and exuses that should be red flags, but because we are in love we ignore them. Then we realize it after we were hurt and feel foolish.

Song Description

I co-wrote the song with Lisa Gates and ken Rawe. I wrote the lyrics, Ken performed and did the melody, Lisa helped come up with the melody. I wanted to say the same thing we hear in break up songs, but in a very different way.

Lyrics

Heart Shaped Glass -Version 1
( Amy Abernathy 2014)

(Intro)
A Glass full of lies,
A Glass full of alibis.

There you were a good looking stranger.
You walked in, my heart was in danger.
I never guessed that your words were untrue.
Through a heart shaped glass I believed you.

(Chorus)

Lies from a heart shaped glass,
Go down smooth if you drink them fast.
Oh yeah, Lies from a heart shaped glass,
They go down smooth if you drink them Fast.

Hoping that I found the real thing,
Your charms put my heart on a string.
I fell too fast and could not see,
Your cheating heart was lying to me.

( Chorus)

Lies from a heart shaped glass,
Go down smooth if you drink them fast.
Oh yeah, Lies from a heart shaped glass,
They go down smooth if you drink them Fast.

(Bridge)

Oh yeah a heart shaped glass,
Boy, did I drink it fast.
Just couldn't see it Couldn't last.
Like the wine,
In my heart Shaped Glass.

(Chorus)

Lies from a heart shaped glass,
Go down smooth if you drink them fast.
Oh yeah, Lies from a heart shaped glass,
They go down smooth if you drink them Fast.

(Outro)
Oh, Oh, Lies from a heart shaped glass,
They go down smooth,
They go down smooth,
If you drink them, if you drink them,
Fast.

Good old broken heart rock song. I like it.
Nice idea in the lyric about lies going down smooth.
Instrument choices are good for the genre.
Riffs were good - appropriate for the song.
Nice live sound.
Good use of light and shade in the arrangment.

Good song writing

Enjoyed the track. Great blend of vocals & instruments. Catchy tune & lyrics, well done.

I like the concept of the heart shaped glass and someone who spews a lot of garbage quickly in the means of lies. A message of what may look great on the outside is not always in line with what is on the inside of a person.

Lyrics are great and original sounding! I like the hook, very catchy! Fun original song!

I like the lyrics.

I like the lead guitar and the beat. I also like the lead vocals.

This was a pretty decent country-rock song with a memorable hook. Nice lead guitar and transition.

A nice country/rock song. The lyrical theme is good and works well, lyrics are good.
The first half of the song is definitely a lot better than the second half. Some very interesting timings both in instrumentation melody and vocal melody. I think the instruments work well together overall, the mix is pretty good.

Catchy tune! The lead vocals are good, and really out front. Harmonies are good as well, sounds to me like you have a one-man thing going on here. Guitar parts are pretty solid.

The song has potential but could do with a rethink.
