Little Girl

Story Behind The Song

(Father Daughter Dance Song) Society has said that the bond between a father and a daughter is magical. She is his little princess and he is her hero. However, many will say that times have changed and that fathers just don't care anymore. Well, "these times they are a changin'"...for the better. E. Walter Smith's "Little Girl" is the first duet in recent times that captures the love and cherished memories shared between a father and his daughter. (It's also one of the New York Times' About.com Top R&B Wedding Songs.) From "riding on her father's shoulders to touch the moon tonight," to "holding her in his arms because the thunder makes her cry," "Little Girl" serves to prove to the world that this kind of enchanting, unconditional love still exists. The relationship between my Dad and my sister is classic; she can do no wrong and he is putty in her hands. He tries to deny it but, the night she got married Dad said that he 'prayed to lived to dance with her on her wedding day.' Well, after we dried our eyes I wrote this song as a tribute to them and a dream that I hope might come true for me one day. After co-writing and producing "Little Girl" with Glen Perdew, I invited American Idol contestant Tatiana McConnico, to sing this beautiful song. I love working with Glen because he always gets where I'm coming from musically. We both grew up listening to radio when one could hear Pop, Rock, and Funk/R&B on the same station, so it's fun collaborating with him. To spice things up, I even brought Colin Sobers in to do all the incredible guitar work. Although this song will become a standard for all father/daughter events and promotions, "Little Girl" is finding its way into the conscience of "dead beat dads" looking to make amends with their "little girls." After a friend of mine heard the song he called his daughter that he had not seen in six or seven years. He said, 'E, life is too short.'"

Lyrics

Little Girl

Verse (Female)
Daddy why do birds
Fly so high in the sky?
Why do the colors of the rainbow
Sometimes make me cry?

Daddy when will I
Find my knight in shining armor?
Will he be strong just like you
And love me for ever more?

Daddy, come to my tea party
Teach me how to ride my bike
Daddy read a bedtime story
Teach me how to fly my kite

Let me ride up on your shoulders
I want to touch the moon tonight
You will always be my hero
And I'll always be your little girl

Verse (Male)
Little princess you
Were only born yesterday
You were everything I hoped for
When I kneeled down to pray

You stole my heart
Wrapped me around your little finger
An unconditional love
Of which words can not say

Little princess come to Daddy
Your shoe is untied
Let me hold you in my arms
I know the thunder makes you cry

When you get a little older
I'm gonna buy you those pearls
But for now my little princess
You'll always be my little girl

Oh, dance with me Daddy
There's magic in the air
See my new dress Daddy
I put perfume in my hair

Little princess you're so beautiful
Oh, the joy I feel inside
This is my proudest moment
I see the sparkle in your eyes, your eyes

Musical interlude
Tempo slows

Daddy don't you cry
You'll never know how much I need you
I'm the person that I am 'cuz of the love you gave

Little princess I
Don't know what else to say
I prayed to live to dance with you on your special day

I love you Daddy...
I love you Princess...

I will always be your...
You will always be my...

Little Girl
