Lot Bios

Ultimately, Here's The Lot:

Dave Ganci (vocals, 'boards, sequencing)

"I hate music. I've no contact with any but my own." Parodoxically, he toils away his anchorite existence in a deep cellar, endlessly molding and suffering his buried landscapes. A slow and meticulous workman, the abandon of his music is a veil, miraculously screening the most labored of creative means. He never lays a note down thoughtlessly, and he never tires of polishing and reassessing. Scrupulous self-criticism leaves little undestroyed that could be described as mediocre.

Harmonically he can move from key to key at will, forging color contrasts marked to make the everyday seem washed out in comparison. "Once it's known where you're going, there's no point to go there," he concludes, then tours the spectrum; sometimes where the sun rises, sometimes where it sets. In Steal Me in the Courtyard, the listener finds he's suddenly far from home, suspended in the most distantly related key, at the point of being "caught above the ground".

Soren Roquentin (piano, guitar, cello)

He is shy and taciturn, given to long periods of silence, with a fantastic range of introspective thought. Entirely subordinate to some inner cerebral existence, his outward life is unadventurous and dull, at times reaching detachment from the world. He's brought back to a piercing external awareness if anyone is in hearing distance of his piano, whence he cannot function. So tryingly he collaborates with his other half, taming the more sinister tints of Ganci with his whimsical blithe hand. Wholly chimerical in his arrangements, he'd prefer the band more in his perverse direction, prevailing visibly on occasion. Some Faraway Sonata is distinctly Roquentin's.

As with this song, sleep is supposed to have accompanied his finest inspiration. Regarding naps as an integral extension of his work day, he falls into the curious realm of dreams, providing a lush conduit of unreal odysseys. The inexpressible epiphany, the necessity of its expression, the inadequate gibberish in need of translation; all is painted in music. Roquentin's Sonata is an achievement of vividness and lure.
