Scott Wilcox

Hi my name is Scott Wilcox, I was born in Dayton, Ohio the son of a radio disc Jockey and at the time my father was a sargeant in the US Air Force. My family moved quite abit until I was about 11 years old and my parents settled in Tomah, WI to be nearer to my mother's parents. My parents divorced soon after and my mother raised my sister and I by herself. My sister and I learned to fend for ourselves as "latchkey kids" but the experience allowed me the opportunity to find my love for music. My Grandpa Oftedahl taught me to play some simple chords on the piano to a song called, "When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain." With those first chords I wrote my first song, "Destiny", and a songwriter was born. I joined band at Tomah Jr. high school and played percussion. It seemed like no time at all and I was playing drumset and banging on anything that made noise. Since my father was a disc jockey I grew up being musically influenced by many kinds of artists some of my favorites being Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Styx, Foreigner, as well as country and folk artist such as John Denver, Willie Nelson and Simon and Garfunkel. My first band was a garage band in the 80's called RISK in which I played drums, my buddy Mike played lead guitar, Rick played rhythem guitar and Dave was our bassist. I can't tell you that we were good, but we definitly were inspired. I became more and more anxious to write and perform my own music and decided to perform as a solo act when I was 16. However being a drummer I was always asked to play side gigs and made some extra money playing for whoever would pay me.

By the time I left for college I had written over 30 songs and had a head filled with hopes and dreams. I met my wife to be, Brenda, in my last two years at UW La Crosse. We got married a year after school and moved to Milwaukee where I got my first job in advertising. After two years in Milwaukee, we moved to Alabama for my first ad agency job in Mobile. I wrote several songs in Alabama and had two children Kayla Ann and Laura Marie. After four years in Mobile, we moved back to Wisconsin. We moved to a small town in Northern Wisconsin called Oconto Falls and lived there for the next seven years while I worked for an advertising agency in Green Bay and eventually started my own business. Seven years later we moved again, this time to the place where I grew up in Tomah, WI. Now I spend my summers sitting on the front porch playing my guitar. I have completed Three CD's: Love Notes, Locally Famous (Widely Unknown), and A Little Jing-a-Ling. I am currently working on my first acoustic CD called The Road, which I hope will be ready to be sold by Late September. Thank you for taking the time to read about my story. I hope someday I can hear yours.
