Solo singer/song writer from Ireland. Main influences are Jack Johnson, Pugwash, The Beatles and Jeff Buckley. Acoustic, chilled out, surfy music mixed with a soul/blues style of vocal. Who is Toby Bedell?
I was just your average 37 year old guy living in rural Ireland with his wife and 2 kids. Up until November 2008, I was a successful manager at the local pharmaceutical plant. On November 9th 2008, I was told that there was no longer a job for me at the plant. This rocked the foundations of my world and 2 weeks later I auditioned for a reality TV Talent Show called 'The All Ireland Talent Show'. To my amazement, I got selected as 1 of 25 acts to perform on live terrestrial TV singing and playing guitar. After getting down to the last 10, I was eventually knocked out but I made a pledge to myself that I was going to do more with my music. So here it is!
Musical background
I started playing guitar when I was 16. My mum had all the Beatles records and I loved them. The guitar was a way of re-creating the Beatles music so my passion for the songs meant I learnt fast. I started writing songs only a few months after picking up the guitar but really only started writing stuff that I was happy for other people to hear when I was about 21. I've been writing a mixture of pop, ballads and club tracks for the last 20 years and have quite a collection that I reckon its time I started airing
About the MP3's
All the recordings on this site were recorded in my bedroom using cheap recording software. With regards to 'real' musical instruments, they include a mike, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar and bongo's. The drums and keyboard are midi software programs from within the PC played using the computer keyboard. In other words, the recordings are quite rough. I am aiming to use this site to see if any of my songs have potential and if they get a good response, I'll invest in a proper recording.
