Scott Meldrum released his debut CD, crush to a small fan base in January of 1998. Using the then untapped resource of the worldwide-web, he set a course that would create a million dollar company and win him tens of thousands of fans along the way.

In his work on crush, Scott borrowed from styles ranging from Frank Sinatra to Neil Finn, blending his solid songwriting skills with a polished vocal delivery. The sparse arrangements and intelligent lyrical content of crush were precursors to the work of artists such as Jack Johnson, Jon Mayer, and David Gray, who have since found a more mainstream audience. It was this brand of pop-infused rock songs that brought Scott his first flood of popularity, winning crush sizeable amounts of college airplay and a fervent web following.

Scott began focusing in earnest on a follow up CD in January of 2003. With the songs already written, Scott searched for a producer who could deliver a bolder, more intense sound than was present on crush.
