Unlike a lot of what is labeled "R&B" these days, these are real songs with real melodies and well thought-out structures. The songs have the lyrical depth and wordiness common to indie rock but with a gospel virtuosity riding on top. "Masta of the Mind's Misuse" is the obvious radio hit, but my favorite is "A Conversation with Heartache" -- it has the illusion of an odd-meter groove that doesn't compromise with the listener. At no point do the drums just come in and "solve" the puzzle - it's definitely worth repeated listenings in order to "get it"! Would love to hear Treassure's music in live performance; there are so many moments in these songs begging for players to go off on the groove and just jam!
