Raye Smith picked up a bass when he was 13; four years later, he was working with Steve Bassett as well as Larry Bland & the Volunteer Choir. He contributed co-writer credits on two Volunteer Choir albums and wrote one of the tracks Bassett recorded on his Christmas album.
That led to 12 years on the road with R&B stars including Alexander O'Neal, Gerald Levert, Dino, and others and worked with rock acts Big Idea and Glorious Vega. He came to the attention of record A&R men and subsequently made two solo recording deals, one with an RCA subsidiary, ENATE Records and an international deal with Link Records, part of EMI-Europe.
Raye's experience includes the debut recording for chart-topping pop artist Chris Brown, upcoming stars like Tion Pri and Divine Sonz. His background has made him comfortable in producing music ranging from country to hip-hop and currently he's acting as the producer for two acts, Sabrina Shell and Cathy Motley-Fitch, to be released on his Route 5 label
