Hey Roy. Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to review a song of mine I call Orbiter. To remind, it was one you like for it's john-lennon-ish qualities but you pointed out some issues with the mix and vocal problems. I just wanted to thank you for that because I do need to hear it and am going to see what I can do about rectifying it. PS. Love the broadjam site. Having a great time with it.

Hi Clayton, I really enjoyed listening to "Tequila And Cold Showers", totally my kind of style and sound ! I forgot to mention that the twang/chorused guitar is a nice touch. The singer has a lovely voice. All the best from France, Pierre

Hey, thanks Pierre. It was kind of a different thing I was trying for with a brand new singer and I have to admit, I like the way it came out. By the way, I listened to some of your material and back at ya, really cool. I like a little darkness and beauty. Very very cool.

Hey Jeff. Thanks for reviewing a coupla songs of mind. Along with your generous comments, I appreciate you took the time and I can see you know what you're talking about. Don't know if you recall this song Orbiter specifically, but I wanted to see if you could help me with a good comment you made. you said you thot I needed a 'chord bridge' between the sort of verses and 'inspire' chorus. and I completely recognize something doesn't work there and I liked your idea, if I know what it means. Ha! I make em up sometimes but I don't slightest idea what I'm doing. by 'chord bridge', do you basically mean kind of a chord progression between those things? or something else? cuz i sorta like that idea, but if you got better even....
thanks again.

Hi--the short answer is yes that's it. I'll listen again tomorrow and be more specific. That's a heck of a good tune already.

Oh it's so much easier to toss out some perky comment and walk away; specifics are hard...

I think what my ears wanted was: (1) change from the acoustic strum pattern and |(2) the key of C I think (1) is probably more important because it works like it is; I just think you need a texture change most--like a tremolo electric whole note chord strum or the sound of a think rhodes piano.

Couple suggestions to try just for fun: on "aspire" go to a D major instead of staying on the Aminor the whole time (you are tuned down a half-step no? so I'm referring to the chord shapes) and on "something worthy" go to F. Or start "you inspire" on Bm and then go to F on "aspire" --the tritone chord change is a cool sound. But that's me.

Now I realize this tune reminds me more of Foo Fighters, Billy Corgan, and Pete Yorn. I'd suggest having a close listen to a number of Pete Yorn tunes for ideas.

Please post if you do a revised version; I'd love to hear it!!!

I did tune a half step down on this. Some good ideas to try here. Like I said, you recognized a thing I always was unsure of in this one and kinda got a little lazy with it, as I unfortunately have a want to do. But I'm going to try some of your suggestions and see what I can do. I'll surely let you know, and again, thanks for taking the time.

Hey Phil. Thanks for taking the time to review my song Fine. And I know exactly what you mean about the electro drum thing front and back. trying to be clever their, and it never really felt right. so thanks for the confirmation. good luck to you.

Hey. Just wanted to thank you for taking the time and your generous review of Tequila And Cold Showers. And I wanted to let you know I am going to take your advice and add probably an organ to the 2nd verse. I knew it needed something but i sorta like the sparseness so hadn't yet. And for the end, I guess I got caught up with the lyric so that I thot I had to fade it but there actually is a hard ending under there. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time. Much appreciated. Good Luck to ya.

Hi Clayton,
Thanks a lot for your review on our song; "This Is From Us To You"

We need some help here buddy. You rated quality of lyrics 3/5, what does quality of lyrics mean? Lyrics with rhyming, metre and thyme or what? Please help us understand this.

And you've 2/5 for originality! Does this mean this song is a total piece of plagiarized lyrics and instruments? Please help us understand so that we can improve.

Once again thanks for your time.

First of all, you have to take criticism for what it is, one person's opinion. You have to know your music well enough to know, what various opinions might mean. Regarding originality, it has nothing to do with plagiarism, to me it has to do with are you creating something completely different sounding that nobody's ever heard before (5) or something that has been done at least sonically many times before (1). I thought you leaned more toward a sound that has been done before. Not a terrible thing really, people are more receptive generally to sounds they are familiar with. regarding lyrics, I'm pretty sure your song was written, at least lyrically, toward a licensing posted on broadjam for a older couple seeing their daughter off on their honeymoon. I think lyrics that are too literal aren't as appealing as lyrics that have a more metaphorical and therefore wider appeal and interpretation.

thanksfor your terrible review of lost angel. ok u didn't like the lyrics but why shoot down the melody as well. Lost Angel has never got less than 85% in any review and song and instrumental to song is currently in 5 top10 charts & went to no.1 of these charts on broadjam so your review does reflect my songs current standing...

Des, as you may remember, everybody has an opinion. Some people listen to my The Angels and connect to me. Others, for reasons I cannot fathom, refuse my offers of friendship. We are both in the top 10 with our Angel songs, and I just wrote one for Adam Maxfield, as Angel are hot. Unfortunately, folks from the City of Angels have other issues...

Hi Clayton, thanks for taking the time to review "Cool Mist". The song just is what it is, and that's creating the atmosphere of being half insane in a rain forest (don't know if you've ever experienced that), and how love can drive you half insane. I'm interested in your 3/5 on instrumentation...maybe you could give me some insight as I can't quite figure that out. Produced and keyboards (synth) Micheal Creber (k.d. lang, The Rankins) , percussion Buff Allan (one of Canada's foremost jazz drummers), bass Hugh MacMillan (Spirit of the West, appears courtesy of Warner Music)....anyways , now you know who I am and can get to my other songs :D. Hope your weekend has been grand!

I don't exactly remember what I said in that review but I listened to the song again, which I like very much by the way. I love the idea. that sort of poetry over verses and singy chorus. Reminds me in a great way of that peggy lee song. I think what i meant though was while the music sounds great, i guess i could see something a little different done with it. though not exactly sure what that is. since the song is a unique song 'idea', maybe the music could reflect that a little more. oh, and i have no idea what i'm talkin about.

Thanks Wednesday for your kind and helpful reviews of my songs Orbiter and Ladies & Germs. I appreciate you taking the time. I think I know what you mean about the ending needing work on L&G. If I'm honest, I wasn't sure about it myself but maybe I can address it somehow..and as far as Orbiter suggesting circa Abbey Road, I guess I can live with that. Anyway, thanks again and be well.

Haha....well, if you aren't a fan of Abbey Road then you're not, but I love it! As for the ending on L&G, well, depends on how cemented the song is for you and whether you have the time/money to go back to it...it's not something to worry about, anyways. Enjoy what's left of the weekend :D
