Ahead of the PackTo those who seek ahead of the pack, defining edge beats and tracks, Totally Killing It delivers 1 of a kind underground credibility combined with professional studio chops. For the last 25 years John?s music has been at the defining edge of New York underground yet at the same time he built a first class studio career working extensively with artists such as Talking Heads, Madonna, AC/DC, Wu-Tang Clan, Guns and Roses and countless more. For an Artist needing tracks and beats, an Agency or Music Director looking for electronic music that stands out or, for a Production Music Library after hip songs and beds, Totally Killing It can be a cheap (hey, we?re used to the underground pay scale -none), professional source for edgy sonic brilliance.
In the early 80?s John?s beat collages were among the first to mix sound efx such as jet planes, guns and crowds with raw hip hop beats and received props from DJ Omar Santana. In the studio at that time he engineered for seminal remixers such as Arthur Baker, Francois Kevorkian, Shep Pettibone and Jellybean. He worked on ?Planet Rock? ?the track many credit as starting underground dance music. Later that decade, at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas John learned the art of Dub from Wailer Tyrone Downie and legendary mixer Stephen Stanley and actually recorded tracks for the Wailers.
In the 90?s John started his own label and through Sub Dub became a defining member of the New York underground electronic scene. The Sub Dub EP?s sparked the New York Illbient scene because 1. Totally Killing It and Samyz Joint were the first labels to define the sound and because 2. Sub Dub outlined the fusion of Hip Hop, Dub and Experimental sound deconstructions that came to define the sound of DJ?s such as DJ Spooky and were a staple of other Illbient DJ?s such as DJ Olive. Live, Sub Dub ruled New York Dub wise opening for Mad Professor, playing the NASA rave and doing many Dub nights at the Cooler. Sub Dub toured in Europe and, with the Executioners and Invisible Scratch Pickles in the US. Sub Dub was asked to remix artists from Arto Lindsy to Burning Spear. The Guru Yoga CD by Intrinsic Sky Sound System, which fuses underground grooves and Tibetan mantra to create dance music for spiritual awakening is the labels current release.
Now that Agencies and Music Directors are looking to Electronica to stay current John?s tracks have been used by Pepsi, MTV, and ABC Television. John?s music is available through Sound Ideas Music Publishing. In 2002 he won an Emmy mixing ABC?s The View and he currently is a music mixer for ABC?s Good Morning America.
