BiographyBaz Barrett
Baz was born in Northamptonshire, England and started playing the guitar aged just 5 years old. The son of a weekend musician he was encouraged to pursue an obvious talent as a natural musician. He raced through his grades on both guitar and piano, and was recruited into his fathers band at 14, where he played Bass guitar. His gift of perfect pitch and his ability to busk effortlessly, stood him in good stead through these busy early years. At 17 he fulfilled another ambition and joined the British Army. Service in Bosnia and throughout the hostilities of the Gulf War in Iraq were busy interludes in a six-year period in Germany. It was here that he began to develop his own musical style, and started to get involved with the local music scene.
At 19 he began as a solo performer playing in Irish Pubs in Central Germany, with his first proper solo gig held in Kirwans Irish pub run by David Bond in Moenchengladbach. He continued to play solo and soon struck up an association with named bands. Chief among these was The Boogie Wonderland Disco Explosion, a 19-piece band who has performed with Moloko and Morcheeba at venues with up to 60,000 capacity. Baz was a lead singer with this group of top class musicians that entertained thousands of people every year at major festivals all over Germany.
Baz was also the Bassman/vocalist/songwriter for Liv-it, who have performed with well-known bands such as, The Banana Fish Bones and Silbermond.
Baz was the bassman for a crazy oldies rock and roll band based in Germany called Teezer. This popular band was running for years and even after moving away, Baz often returned for Reunion gigs and plenty of Barre Brau Beer!
Despite a hectic schedule with three bands and solo performances, Baz was invited to help write and arrange the music for a modern musical. From Rock to Hip-Hop, Funk to Salsa, the show covered a wide range of musical styles to cater for an even wider audience. This was of-course accompanied by some very slick choreography by the dancers from "Fauth Dance Company", superb vocals, great lighting, video screen and special effects to create an atmosphere that was to be known as, Bens Party. Performances started 21st May 2005 and were a great success.
In June 2005, Baz released his album Boredom Killer. Apart from financing the project, he wrote and arranged all his songs, sang all the vocals and played all the instruments featured apart from the drums, then co-produced the whole album. In the process, he has created a unique mix of melody and tempo styles that have been very well received by critics at Broadjam, Taxi, Oscar Radio, Tonic TV and Chromium Records. The album Boredom Killer is available for purchase below.
After a long break doing other things, Baz is once more following the musical path and has been producing songs for the next album, some of which you can hear on this site. These songs are new demo's for 2009 and will give you a taste of things to come. Enjoy!
