With a family that spans the globe from Latin America to China and back to the US, she has traveled and lived in a small handful of the world's cultures. She first began to compose songs on an acoustic bass while studying and living abroad in Chile and Nicaragua. The total immersion in Latin music and culture fed into the rhythms of her compositions and inspired romantic lyrics in Spanish. Upon her return to the US, her songwriting was more influenced by listening to artists within her own album collection such as Sade, Tracy Chapman, Muddy Waters, The Beatles and Les Nubians.
