Alter Ego SF is a band formed in Daly City, CA on March, 2001. A hard rock hybrid taking cues from such heavyweights as Faith No More, DRI, COC, and Black Sabbath. Current members are Larry Santiago – Bass/ Lead Vocals, Lance Cockerill - Guitars/Vocals, Jason Behan - Guitars/ Vocals, and Derek Ragsdale – Drums.
What have we done thus far? We’ve played a lot. Tons in the SF Bay area, Sacramento area, and in Phoenix AZ. We got to open up on New Years Eve 2004 for Death Angel at the Pound in SF. We managed to headline the last night of the Hell’s Angel’s 50th Anniversary (a surreal experience.) We self produced and released a cd entitled Home is Where the Hurt is which is available at shows, on our website, and available in Japan through www.powerslaveshop.com. We also garnered airplay on 92.3 KSJO “My Own Hell.”
The band plans on doing more song writing and playing throughout the west coast in 2005-2006.

Alter Ego SF is a band formed in Daly City, CA on March, 2001. A hard rock hybrid taking cues from such heavyweights as Faith No More, DRI, COC, Slayer, and Black Sabbath to name a few. Current members are Larry Santiago – Bass/ Lead Vocals, Lance Cockerill - Guitars/Vocals, Jason Behan - Guitars/ Vocals, and Derek Ragsdale – Drums.
The band started out as the brainchild of popular bay area grindcore, heavy metal, and rap producer/engineer Larry Santiago whose credits read like a who’s who of Bay Area underground music with the likes of Swarm (ex- Death Angel,) JT tha Bigga Figga, San Quinn, Benumb (relapse recording artists,) Vulgar Pigeons, Severed Savior (Unique Leader recording artists,) and Big Shrimp (ex – Death Angel.) In Larry’s own words, “The band started out after my then current project Big Shrimp decided to reunite as Death Angel leaving me without a band.” Big Shrimp was a big part of my life in the mid to late 90’s. We reached regional success playing our brand of skate rock up and down CA. We self-produced an album and with the album, managed to get college air play and a few reviews in fanzines and music rags. I guess that band never could live above the shadow of Death Angel though. We would play gigs and people would be wearing DA shirts and calling us “Sellouts.” It was a weird scene for me not being a part of their past and living in their present, but a great learning experience nonetheless. “That band (Death Angel) went on to enjoy much success with the current retro/ thrash resurgence and ended up releasing “The Art of Dying” in 2004 via Nuclear Blast records. At the same time Big Shrimp was ending, I suffered a great loss in one of my best friends, Brandon passing away suddenly due to sleep apnea (something I also suffer from) and an enlarged heart. I was distraught to say the least. At his wake, I bumped into many old friends. Friends that use to play with each other in a once thriving scene at various Bay Area Dives like the On Broadway, The Stone, The Omni, and Morty’s. Some of us decided to get together and jam for healing purposes, to release anger and frustration. These jams created the original nucleus of Alter Ego SF. The band now comprises of the bay areas most accomplished underdog musicians.
What have we done thus far? We’ve played a lot. Tons in the SF Bay area , Sacramento area, and in Phoenix AZ. As for key shows, we got to open up on New Years Eve 2004 for my friends in Death Angel at the pound in SF. We managed to land and headline the last night of the Hell’s Angel’s 50th Anniversary (a surreal experience.) We self produced and self released a cd entitled (Home is Where the Hurt is) which is available at shows on our website and available in Japan through www.powerslaveshop.com. We also garnered airplay on 92.3 KSJO “My Own Hell.” Unfortunately, that station turned to Spanish Programming. Go figure! The people that have seen the band live have given us much positive feedback. They say we remind them of the old days. No frills rock.
The band plans on doing more song writing and playing throughout the west coast in 2005-2006. Alter Ego will complete an ep and an album in fall 2005 and summer 2006 and plans on looking for regional acts to tour with and labels to release future albums.
