The Apologists are from Madison Wisconsin and play a unique mixture of musical styles known as "Garage Country". Their originals are generally country flavored sagas of lovable losers, ("Donut Boy ") and also do reworked ancient gospel or folk tunes, ("See That My Grave is Kept Clean"}. The current lineup is Boyce Johnson on drums, Jim Merett on lead guitar, Marty Mulhern on vocals and rhythm guitar, and Mark Penner on bass. Over the years The Apologists have played with Exene and the Original Sinners, The Bottle Rockets, The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash and Romi Mayes. Their first album, "Welcome to Garage Country " is a Garage Country classic while their second "Death by Misadventure" lives up to it's name.
