Hard Luck Highway

Folk - Alternative

From ExMogul.com Artist: John Keller Release: Hard Luck Highway (2006) Singer/songwriter John Keller has released several CDs over the past five years, with “Hard Luck Highway” being his most recent. “Another Wasted Life,” opens the disc, with Keller lamenting his lack of musical fame over a whiskey sour (or three) with requisite lonely guitar and blues harp. Comparisons to Bruce Springsteen’s style on “Nebraska” have been drawn, and they are accurate. All the songs on this release are minimal in instrumentation, with Keller accompanying himself on guitar in an up- close-and-personal style. Highlights of this fifteen-track CD are “I’d Do Anything,” a lively country/folk number that Keller delivers with gusto; “Unchained Melody”, with its opening train sounds and similar guitar playing style (think Folsom Prison Blues); “Robin’s Way,” an instrumental featuring excellent folksy acoustic guitar work by Keller; “Rosie,” which has a very lively, happy Van Morrison vibe to it; “Travis,” which brings to mind the work of 70s-era David Crosby or America.
