Soul Kiss

Soul Kiss (12/09/02) is the third studio album released by Jim Roberti, the singer/songwriter from Northeastern Pennsylvania. Unlike his prior releases (Blend, 1999 and Maybaby, 1997) where he played most of the instruments himself, Roberti assembled a four-piece band to record Soul Kiss. The result is 10 new songs that include more electric guitars than usual, as well as more backing vocals. While his prior release Blend is earthier in instrumentation, Soul Kiss has a bit of a heavier sound in songs like Current Boyfriend and Agree. Roberti’s lyrics are at once witty and quirky, if not a bit darker in songs like Italic Dream, Soul Kiss and If You Don’t. Some dabbling with keyboard-generated horn sections in Museum and Shellfish, Salami add a new flavor not known to JR fans. Once again Roberti co-produced with long-time friend Gary Wehrkamp of Shadow Gallery fame, who also plays electric guitar and keyboards on the disc. Jim Roberti is an artist who has made a niche for himself as an independent purveyor of entertaining music.
