Stewart & Stuart

Back in the late 20th century Todd Stuart and I crossed paths a couple of times, first on a radio show which he was producing and then in a musical revue that I had written and was producing. Knowing that Todd was an actor in musicals, I asked him to do a demo for me, and as we worked together Todd became more and more involved in the overall direction and creation of the project. It was the first time he had been exposed to the writing and arranging process, and for me, it was my first chance to work with a talented actor and singer from the world of the Broadway musical. As we became friends we discovered that each of us liked a wide variety of artists and genres and we started a process of sharing ideas and creative ventures in a very open, honest and - surprise!- efficient way. We wrote well, had fun, and worked quickly. These songs are the result of those sessions. We also discovered a mutual common ground in our ancestry. Todd was a Stuart of the Tudor spelling and I, with the middle name Stewart, hailed from the more Scots spelling. Either way, we found that we were both contemporary expressions of that noble and prolific clan and thus connected to the same mystic bonds that such membership can confer. The songs are not in any way Scottish, Celtic, or have any connection to that sort of thing in any obvious way. But they do spring from who we are, hence the name - Stewart & Stuart.
