Artist: Corday Release Title: "Welcome To My Past" Jennifer Corday, a favorite female performer in her local scene for many years, has a warm, lively presence, a helluva strong larynx, and a delicate delivery, whether she's live or in studio. Guitarwise, sistergirl's got all the authority and strength of, say, Lita Ford or Cheryl Crow, with the vulnerability of a Lisa Loeb or Jane Siberry. The ambience in her vocal tones and phrasing are quite nice. Check it out: "Skin," a selection reminiscent of Slowdive or the Catherine Wheel. If you like moody, melodic, wistful music, "On the Moon" might be your flavor of choice. The layering of vocals and instrumentation (cello and guitar, namely) in that track and each of Corday's songs might best be deemed "portable." It's great coffee shop, post-clubbing cool-down, or fireplace/make-out music. You know the deal. Lovely stuff.
