Pop - Rock

Named after a mistaken lyric to Frank Ocean's "Swim Good," the Madison rock n' soul collective Drive to the Ocean started in 2009 after several members of the MAMA-winning group 8889 went their separate ways. Two band members--multi-instrumentalists Ross Benbow and Casey Collins--started writing and recording songs soon thereafter for a new album of modern rock material. Collaborations over the next five years helped Benbow and Collins' project branch out musically and artistically from their previous efforts with 8889. Bringing in a number of guest musicians from the Madison area to record, including bassist Nick Moran, Mama Dig Down saxophonist Nick Bartell, and guitarist and producer Aaron Katcher, the group's sound grew to mix funk, reggae, and jazz with the founders' continued penchant for vocal harmonies and melodic rock. The resulting self-titled LP is ten all-original songs born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, showcasing influences from the Beatles and Dawes to Hall & Oates and the Maytals.
