Trafton has resided in the North Florida Big Bend Area most of his life. He graduated from Tallahassee Community College and then attended Florida State University. His interest in playing a guitar and singing began at the Lambda Chi house on the campus of Florida State. He formed a three piece band with Dave Roberts and Michael Tilley. By 1992, he had a six piece, full blown country extravaganza which became a huge success in the Tallahassee area.
He continued singing and writing and moved to Nashville in 1996 to continue his musical interests. Trafton managed the West End Branch of Southtrust Bank from 1996 to 1997.
