Maylyn Murphy's sultry and bluesy torch-singer style makes her one of today's great R&B, Contemporary and Jazz vocalists and pianists, with an innate sensuality reminiscent of Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, Vanessa Williams, and Sade. But the richness of Maylyn's voice and interpretation harkens back to a culturally diverse childhood. Before Maylyn was 10 years old, she lived all over the world, learning Tagalog in the Philippines, Japanese in Yokohama, and English in a small town in California. She learned at a young age that her unique voice could reach out to those around her, but it wasn't quite enough to sing superbly in 3 different languages. So Maylyn taught herself to play the piano at the age of 9, and at age 14 began winning singing competitions in Japan where she attended high school. Although her family stayed in Japan, Maylyn felt she needed to go to the United States to pursue her aspiration to be a professional musician. America was home to her most beloved musical influences
