"I'm not a fan of love songs, but I'm a windmill for you."

"I'm a mock Christian, a sad excuse for a friend, I pray on holidays, occasionally weekends."

"Well sometimes I am so skeptical, I can't even trust myself. And there's minds like mine a spectical,
ideas rotting on the shelves...Knock on Woods like that's gonna help it hasn't saved me yet."

These lyrics from Derek Woods songs "We", "Mock Christian" and "Knock On Woods" portray the sarcastic wit and deep thought process Woods puts into his song writing, even in his song names. Woods expresses himself creatively using everything he knows about the english language, and isn't satisfied with something that sounds rehashed. Derek Woods has been writing seriously for three years, and has been said to write "wise beyond his years" by one TAXI representative. This may be because of his many unconventional topics in his songwriting. At age 22 his song topics include an ode to New Jersey, the sad state of pop culture/brainwashed America, and people who call themselves religious and don't practice what they preach. On top of that, Derek Woods almost literally never stops writing new material. Woods writes more songs than maybe even Ryan Adams - writing over 100 songs and self-releasing eighteen themed, very eclectic cds. In only his 20's, Woods creates very mature, thoughtful, inspirational, thought provoking soundtracks for life - each song so different in style and approach that you simply can't place it in one genre...not every song on a cd should just be an acoustic guitar.

Conscious of the current state of popular culture, Derek Woods strives to be different - not for the purpose of being cliche' different, but to be different simply because creating something original is why one can call themselves an artist in the first place. A songwriter never needs 12 songs on one album to tell their Ex that they love them or hate them; and that cynical, yet realistic outlook on song writing is depicted in Woods lyrics. Woods has always studied the "Seinfeldian" aspects of life - because why people do what they do in certain situations is truly amazing.

Not void of his own problems, Derek Woods also writes about plaguing personal demons, regret, childhood fantasy (space and science fiction), and his aspirations to come. With his biggest influences being the unique list of Acoustic Alchemy, The Beatles, Goldfinger, Daft Punk, Guster, and Gatsby's American Dream, Derek Woods music has to be heard to be believed.
